FX-Map and FX-Map Link

FX-Maps are the core procedural maps based on the specific algorithms patented by Allegorithmic.
ProFX2 textures are created by combining
FX-Maps with
filters and
vector graphics in
MapZone2,
ProFX2's authoring tool.
An
FX-Map Link is a reference to an
FX-Map stored in an external preset file. In a way, this quite like the concept of "shortcuts" to a file you can create on your desktop. See also the
Shared Ressources and
External Links pages for more details about this.
Most of the
FX-Map Links you will use are stored in the "FX-Map Presets" folder. These FX-Maps are accessible through the Presets Tab on the left of the GUI :
To add an
FX-Map Link, simply drag&drop the selected preset into the
Compositing Graph:

The contextual menu of an
FX-Map Link offers three specific items:

"Set reference ...": Choose which
FX-Map this link references
"Flatten reference ...": Converts the
FX-Map Link to an editable
FX-Map (i.e. make a local copy of it)
"Open the referenced preset...": Edit the referenced preset
Choosing "Open the referenced preset" is equivalent to opening the corresponding FX-Map set in the library:
II. Creating an FX-Map Set
The FX-Maps in "FX-Map Set 1" are optimized for video game and realtime rendering using the
ProFX engine.
You can create your own
FX-Map Set by adding another FX-Map Set in the "FX-Map Presets" folder in the library :
Create a
FX-Map in a new preset. Here is a simple checker.

on the
FX-Map node and choose "Share this node..."

Name your preset.

Save your preset in the "FX-Map Presets" folder.

Return to the library and create a new preset, you can now access your own FX-Map Set.
